Acts 1-3 (Monday June 10th)

Kaylene here. I get to start Acts with you. So here we go.
 Acts 1. Jesus has been with the disciples for Forty days (what other event took forty days in the Bible?) after his resurrection, performing miracles and getting them ready for the Holy Spirit. Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem and they did; along with  fellow believers, also two others that they felt could replace Judas (who betrayed Jesus) so they cast lots.Here is an interesting fact.
The practice of casting lots is mentioned 70 times in the Old Testament and seven times in the New Testament. In spite of the many references to casting lots in the Old Testament, nothing is known about the actual lots themselves. They could have been sticks of various lengths, flat stones like coins, or some kind of dice; but their exact nature is unknown. The closest modern practice to casting lots is likely flipping a coin. Who was chosen?
 Acts 2. This is where we see God is so real. He sends the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.
A sound like a violent wind blew in the house where they had been praying. Tongues of fire rested on each of them and they spoke in languages that they did not know. People heard their own language in the city. Who gave them grief? Who stood up and said, hey this is God's promise? We also see them having church, eating together, and helping others.
 Acts 3. Peter heals a lame beggar. Peter and John are walking to pray in the temple. Peter sees a man from birth who could not walk. He looks at him and says"silver and gold I have none but this I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ get up and walk." And he did, Peter tells onlookers that God did this through him. Stop doubting and believe; give up your sinful ways and believe. I hope you enjoyed starting the book of Acts with me.
